During an inspection of frozen products in retail network, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected adulterated foodstuff NEKTON Lososové nugetky v jemné rajčatové omáčce (salmon nuggets in fine tomato sauce) packaged à 170 g with best before date by 31st March 2016 produced by MARKO s.c. Hutr-Detal Zpracování ryb Ewa a Mariusz Kowalscy, 58-200 Dzieržoniów ul.. Šwidnicka 38 originating in Poland. According to the labelling given by the producer, the product contained 85% of crumbled meat of Salmon salar. The laboratory analysis proved only 35.4% of the meat in question. With regard to the fact that information on the labelling regarding salmon meat misled consumers, which is a flagrant violation of Regulation No. 178/2002, CAFIA ordered the seller – company SPAR Česká obchodní společnost s. r. o. to immediately order the foodstuff from its network.
Further investigation of the case showed that the non-compliant lot contained 2,292 consumer packages in total, out of which 588 were withdrawn by the seller on the basis of the measure ordered by the Inspection Authority. CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
