The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company Iceland Czech a. s. to immediately withdraw non-compliant foodstuff Birds Eyes – Křupavé rybí prsty  – “Made with 100% fish fillet”(Crispy fish fingers) packaged à 224 g with best before date by 07/2018, lot: 61-02 A L7010CL066 sold by: IGLU a.s., č.p. 408, 330 02 Dýšina, CZ. Country of origin was not indicated, veterinary oval: DE HB 00145 EC.

The producer indicated, inter alia, on the labelling in Czech: “Composition: Minced fish meat (62%).” However, an analysis carried out by the CAFIA laboratory, confirmed the content of fish meat amounting to 49% only. The information on the labelling thus misled consumers.

Laboratory analysis further revealed presence of allergenic substances which were not indicated on the labelling, namely of milk protein and mustard. However, legislation orders producers to indicate presence of all allergens on the labelling in order to prevent unintentional consumption by a person suffering from an allergy or intolerance to the given substance.

CAFIA inspectors sampled the foodstuff at the premises of company Iceland Czech a.s., Leopoldova 16/2138 in Prague and upon laboratory reports ordered to withdraw the lot in question from the whole retail network. CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
