In total 23 deficiencies during offering and sale of foodstuffs were detected by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter “CAIFA” only) at 8 food business operators. The most frequent deficiencies were offering of goods with expired best-before-date and selling of foodstuffs unfit for human consumption. Furthermore, CAFIA found foodstuffs at which misleading information on the composition were indicated either by the producer or the seller.

CAFIA detected serious breach of the safe sale at premises ROSA market s.r.o. at Nádražní St. in Velké Pavlovice. The seller offered smoked meat products by over-the-counter-sale as fresh, even though their use-by-date was expired by 5 days. The breach of safety was detected also at premises LE TRONG SON in Středoluky on the west of Prague. Unsatisfactory refrigerating equipment kept smoked meat products at temperature around 14°C in spite of the fact that the required temperature is from 0 to 5 °C. The foodstuffs were evaluated as unfit for human consumption and the Inspection Authority imposed ban on putting them into circulation.

Foodstuffs unsafe for allergic people were detected at premises of Tesco Stores ČR a.s. at Těšínská St. in Opava. Personnel put on the product “párky s telecím masem” (sausages with veal) label and logo “Bez lepku” (gluten-free). However, accompanying documents proved that the product contained gluten and wheat flour was mentioned in the composition. Premises of Ahold Czech Republic a.s. at Komenského St. in Boskovice offered foodstuff “Kuřecí pekáč s bylinkami” (marinated chicken meat product) with well-marked label “Bez E-ček” (without additives), nevertheless, some additives were mentioned in the composition. The consumers were thus misled.

Foodstuffs containing extraneous substances and pests were banned on putting into circulation by the Inspection Authority as well. It was the case of 4 types of rice at premises Toan Tran Van on Masaryk square in Letovice where 40 kg of foodstuffs contained living larvas and adult moths. Premises of Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s. at Sokolovská St. in Karlovy Vary offered packaged confectionery product “Vem si” with hazelnut flavour which was visibly covered with mould. All 13,083 packages were withdrawn.

Administrative procedure on imposition of a fine will be initiated with the above-mentioned food business operators.
