The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) did not release unpacked whole star anise for free circulation onto the internal EU market. The documentation accompanying the goods stated that the consignment contained anise seeds. During the inspection carried out on 11th September 2014, CAFIA and the Customs Authorities for the Capital City of Prague detected that the foodstuffs stored in the customs in cardboard boxes warehouse were strongly contaminated by mould visible by naked eye. That is why the goods failed to comply with elementary conditions laid down by legislation and could not be released into the CR and thus onto the internal EU market. The accompanying documentation indicated that company LIU SHI KONG FA s.r.o. based on Kolbenova street 7 in Prague was the importer of the consignment.
Because the foodstuff was detained before released on the market, the non-compliant lot did get to consumers.
