The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (hereinafter “CAFIA” only) checked a consignment of foodstuffs originating from Vietnam imported by company Bohemian Business Agency, s.r.o. based in Prague. The Customs Administration of the Central Bohemian Region detained the suspicious consignment at its premises and notified CAFIA. During the inspection, two lots of foodstuffs heavily attacked by mould were kept from entering the EU’s internal market. The foodstuffs concerned are: 48 kg of Sojový produkt pro asijskýhot pot (Soya product for Asian hot pot) and 23 kg of Arašídy LAC NHAN – Trong Luong (Peanuts). Peanuts were not only heavily affected by mould but also sprouted. The above mentioned lots will be disposed. Moreover, CAFIA suspended 2,100 kg of Arašídy čerstvé LAC NHAN v hnědé slupce (fresh peanuts in brown skin). Samples were taken to the laboratory to check the amount of aflatoxins. The lot in question will be detained until the test results are finished. Unsafe and suspicious lots were thus detained before they could pose risk to consumers.
Furthermore, the importer infringed food law because he failed to register his company at CAFIA and provided a non-corresponding invoice for foodstuffs that were subject to the inspection.
