In co-operation with the Police of the CR, inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) recently detected a consignment of non-compliant honey intended for sale in the retail network. This honey was provided by information on a non-existing producer and accompanied by a tax document stating untrue registration number, company name and address of the producer or indicated information related to a non-existing entity.
The inspectors revealed following untrue information at the detained consignment of honey in question:
1. On the labelling (of a glass):
Producer: Český med, Valašské Meziříčí, Czech Republic
2. On the tax document:
Supplier: ČESKÝ MED, Bezručova 24, Valašské Meziříčí
Registration number: 66347128
(this entitiy does not exist)
Facts known by CAFIA show that a perpetrator trying to sell honey of unknown origin uses not only made up information but also misuses information of existing companies dealing with production and sale of honey and provides the honey of an unknown origin with this accompanying documentation.
The inspectors sampled the consignment to perform an analysis in the laboratory. Analyses carried out earlier showed that this honey was not compliant as regards diastase activity, saccharose and HMF, they thus proved adulteration and violation of quality parameters laid down for honey.
CAFIA strongly warns all sellers and entrepreneurs trading with honey to pay higher attention to the authenticity of this assortment as well as verification of the authenticity of the goods directly at producers or suppliers. In case of doubts regarding the origin of honey, improper or suspicious practices of suppliers, the sellers may address directly to CAFIA.
CAFIA has detected the cases on the territory of the South-Moravian region so far.
