CAFIA found pesticide flonicamid in Pekinese cabbage exceeding the limit

10/26/2018

Within targeted inspections of foreign substances in fresh fruit and vegetables, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected a non-compliant lot of Pekinese cabbage at the premises of company Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s., Bohosudovská 1882, 415 01 in Teplice.

Fresh Pekinese cabbage packaged in PE plastic film, lot: LOT L3604, country of origin: Poland, at which CAFIA laboratory confirmed contamination by pesticide flonicamid amounting to 0.1 mg/kg, was concerned. Relevant piece of legislation provides for maximum permitted limit for presence of flonicamid corresponding to no more than 0.03 mg/kg. Flonicamid is an insecticide used as a protection against insect pests.

The facts mentioned above show that the operator violated Regulation (EC) No. 396/2005 regarding maximum limits for pesticide residues in food and feed. CAFIA will therefore initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine.

At the same time, CAFIA investigates the case within the supply chain as well.
