CAFIA detected further cases of misleading as regards meat in tins

Three cases of misleading of consumers regarding meat in tins of Polish origin were detected by inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) during an inspection carried out in retails in Prague, Ostrava and Náchod. Following cases were concerned:

- Dušené hovězí maso, best before date by: 09/2020, lot: L33002, producer was not specified, origin: Poland. The labelling stated 65% of beef, however, the analysis proved presence of beef amounting to 56% only. The inspectors took the sample at the premises of company ADL Finance s.r.o., Sluneční náměstí 2567/7, Prague 158 00.

- Chalupářské hovězí maso Delux, best before date by: 12/01/2021, lot: 12 01 2021, producer was not specified, origin: Poland. The labelling stated 80g meat in 100g of the product, however, the analysis proved presence of beef amounting to 66.5 g/100g only. The sample was taken at MAKRO Cash & Carry ČR s.r.o., Místecká /280, Ostrava 720 00.

- Nasze Smaki Miesiwo w sosie wlasnym, Vepřové maso ve vlastní šťávě, preserved tin, best before date by: 14. 11. 2020, lot: L 14857, producer: Jeronimo Martins Polska S.A. ul. Zniwna 5, 62-025 Kostrzyn przez Pamapol S.A., ul. Wielunska 2, 97-438 Rusiec, Poland, country of origin: Poland. The labelling stated 83.8 % of  pork and  5.5% of pork flank which was supposed to be 89.3% of meat, however, the laboratory analysis confirmed 75% of meat only. Company Anna Magdalena Brzozowska, Čechova 408, Náchod 547 01 was the seller of the foodstuff concerned.

The first two mentioned inspected persons were ordered to withdraw the lots in question from the market. As regards the premises in Náchod, the foodstuffs were already sold out.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.

With regard to repeated misleading labelling at this sort of foodstuffs, CAFIA will further continue with inspections in the same intensity.
