This action called forth a dramatic response not only in the Spanish mass media but also in the Spanish supreme authorities. Consequently, based on protracted discussions of the case - according to the comments of our ambassador to Spain Mr. Martin Povejšil - the authorities eventually identified with the results detected by CAFIA. Mr. Santiago Cabanas Ansorena, the Spanish ambassador to the Czech Republic, stated at the today's meeting with Ing. Jakub Šebesta, the CAFIA General Director, that the Spanish national authorities shall guarantee observance of the ban imposed on the exports of this kind of olive product not only to the Czech Republic but to the other countries too.
Based on the results of analyses performed by CAFIA, the competent Spanish inspection bodies started a series of laboratory analyses and their results made them decide to withdraw the olive oil of poor quality from the shops in the Spanish market and to impose a ban on its manufacturing.
It deals with a cheap olive oil made from pressed olives designated as "Aceite de Orujo de Oliva". As opposed to the high-quality pure non-refined olive oil designated as "Aceite do Oliva Virgen", it is manufactured from pressed olives using a technology of pressing at high temperatures, which can cause liberation of carcinogenic poly-aromatic hydrocarbons.
According to the statements of Spanish press the results obtained by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority and its subsequent actions triggered off the imposing of a ban from the side of the competent Spanish bodies on the production, sales and exports of this product. The Spanish mass media, without exception, did not forget to emphasize in this case, which was extraordinarily pursued, that it was the Czech inspection authorities that quickly reacted and withdrew the contaminated oils from the market.
All the contaminated oils that were withdrawn from the Czech distribution network will be transported to Spain according to the statement of the representatives of importers and producers.
