Prague customs officers and policemen carried out on Saturday afternoon, 24 September 2005, another joint surveillance operation in the wholesale market hall in Prague 4 - Libuš. The surveillance operation focused in particular on capturing people who sell goods that infringe trade mark rights.

Some sixty armed forces officers occupied one hour after noon the places where the sellers were marketing counterfeit branded goods. The customs officers together with policemen detained on the spot fifteen people selling counterfeits and seized 25,658 pieces of drapery and consumer goods infringing trade mark rights. The controllers took from counters of the market hall mainly mobile telephone covers, calculators, lighters, handbags, perfumes, but also binoculars and clothes. All goods bore counterfeit marks.

The value of seized goods has been estimated at CZK 12 million.

Heavy fines or sentence of imprisonment up to two years may be imposed on all the detained for infringing trade mark rights.

Inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority who also took part in the control found food of unknown origin on sale that had no labelling or had no Czech labelling. These goods were prohibited from sale.

This surveillance operation has already been the third operation carried out within a month in Prague market halls during which customs officers and policemen detained 37 sellers of various goods illegitimately labelled with trade marks in the value of
CZK 23 million.
