Laboratories of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) have proven a limit-exceeding content of aflatoxins that are dangerous to human health in a consignment of five tons of hazelnuts from Azerbaijan.
The consignment was detected in importer’s warehouse from where it should have been distributed to the Czech market. The CAFIA has immediately banned the distribution and therefore the consignment will not reach the market and will not put consumers in danger in any way. The distributor is obligated to inform the CAFIA in the nearest days how the contaminated consignment will be handled.
The Food Inspection Authority which is the Czech National Contact Point for Europe-wide Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, RASFF, informed about the contaminated consignment the central office in Brussels today.
