Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority Orders Withdrawal of Fish Meat Adulterated with an Increased Addition of Water (26%)

01/21/2026

The State Agricultural and Food Inspection Authority ordered the retailer, Torgretail CZ s.r.o., to withdraw from all its branches in the Czech Republic a non-compliant deep-frozen food product: Pangasius fillets, skinless, 700 g package, batch designation No.: FF00337/2025, best before date: 25/06/2027, country of origin: Vietnam.

According to the accompanying documentation provided, the supplier to the Czech Republic is Domo Invest OÜ, Nirgi, Koigi-Valjakula, 946 41, Saaremaa vald, Saaremaa county, Estonia.

The manufacturer stated on the packaging, among other information:

Ingredients: pangasius fillet (Pangasius hypthalmus) 80%, water 20%.

However, an analysis of the sample carried out in an accredited laboratory clearly demonstrated that the actual meat content in the food product is only 53.8%. The information stated on the packaging is therefore misleading for consumers with regard to the actual composition of the product.

Inspectors of the Czech Agriculturel and Food Inspection Authority ordered the retailer to withdraw the non-compliant batch from the market and will initiate administrative proceedings to impose a fine. At the same time, CAFIA entered the information into the European system for combating food fraud (AACS) in order to allow further investigation of the irregularities in the country of origin.
