Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority found imported counterfeit canned meat in the market

10/09/2025

Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found counterfeit canned meat in the market with a reduced meat content of approximately 20% compared to the information on the packaging. The food in question is the following:

STEAMED BEEF – sterilized canned food, with a best before date: 22.01.2027, supplier: Grace Baltic Sia, Kalnciema 32a-16, Riga LV-1083, Latvia; distributor: Sia Nord Plus, Latvia. The manufacturer stated on the package label, among other things: meat content 97%. However, laboratory analysis in an accredited laboratory confirmed the presence of meat in the batch in question in the amount of 77.9%. CAFIA inspectors collected the non-compliant sample at the Torgretail CZ s.r.o. store, Znojemská 4904/117, Jihlava 586 03.

The information on the packaging was misleading for consumers regarding the actual composition of the food and CAFIA will initiate administrative proceedings with the inspected persons to impose a fine.

CAFIA ordered the seller to withdraw the defective batch of food from all branches and forwarded the information to the European system for combating adulterated food AACS, which will enable further investigation of the case in the country of origin of the food.
