Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority bans 100% orange juice adulterated with undeclared additives

09/01/2025

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) has ordered Tesco Stores ČR a.s. to withdraw from all its branches the non-compliant food TESCO 100% ORANGE JUICE, batch number: 1475466, best before date: 07.09.2025, seller: Tesco Stores ČR a.s., Vršovická 1527/68b, 100 00 Prague 10.

The product packaging stated, among other things: "Orange juice from concentrate. Fruit content: 100%". However, analysis in an accredited laboratory, based on the evaluation of isotopic ratios (D/H)I and delta13 C, demonstrated that the botanical origin of the sugars does not correspond to the botanical origin of sugars originating exclusively from oranges. The sample in question thus failed in the parameter "botanical origin of sugars", i.e., the specification for 100% orange juice, due to the presence of undeclared additives - sugars that did not originate from oranges.

The Food Inspection Authority will initiate administrative proceedings against the inspected entity to impose a fine.
