This afternoon, the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) received a notification via the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) from the Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic concerning a potentially hazardous food originating from the Czech Republic. The product concerned is:

Natura, lightly sparkling, 500 ml, batch: L61481/00:20, BBE: 27/11/2026, EAN: 5449000287786, additional information: Bottled from the Natura natural spring, Teplice nad Metují, Czech Republic, distributor: Coca-Cola Česká republika s.r.o.

Laboratory analysis of the food concerned found a high pH of 14, indicating the presence of lye. The laboratory analysis was performed on a package that had already been opened and used by a consumer.

As the competent supervisory authority, CAFIA immediately began addressing the situation. According to preliminary information from the producer, the batch concerned was not distributed in the Czech Republic. The batch was bottled several hours after the last sanitation procedure, which does not indicate contamination during the production process.

CAFIA inspectors are continuing to investigate the situation intensively and are taking further steps to clarify the case. Should information relevant to consumers in the Czech Republic emerge, we will inform the public without delay.
