Consumer warning: salmonella in imported chicken cutlets

05/26/2026

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) warns consumers about a non-compliant food product:

Fresh chicken breast cutlets, Quality Class: A, vacuum-packed, marked with a use-by date of 09/04/2026, batch number: 40900340, manufacturer: Avicarvil Fresh SRL, Com. Frâncești, Vâlcea County, Romania. Additional information: Raised in: Romania, slaughtered in: Romania, health mark (veterinary oval): RO 208 EC.

Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of Salmonella Infantis bacteria in the specified batch of the product. These bacteria cause the disease salmonellosis.

As the product has already passed its use-by date, it is no longer available on the market. However, CAFIA strongly recommends that any consumers who may still have the product stored frozen at home should not consume it. Freezing has virtually no effect on bacterial contamination.

Inspectors collected a sample of the non-compliant batch at the premises of BILLA, Mezi Stromy 512, 251 25 Jinočany.

CAFIA entered the notification concerning the non-compliant food product into the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) so that the matter could be further investigated in the country of origin.

CAFIA will initiate administrative proceedings with the inspected company regarding the imposition of a fine.
