Consumer Warning: Listeria in Vlašský Salad

10/03/2026

As part of an official food production inspection, inspectors from the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) identified a non-compliant food product:

MASO WEST Vlašský Salad in 140 g, 300 g and 1 kg packages, bearing a use-by date of 6 October 2026, batch L862026265, manufactured by MASO WEST s.r.o., production plant at Maxima Gorkého 682, 339 01 Klatovy.

Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes in the food.

The Food Inspection Authority strongly advises all consumers who may have this batch of the product at home, given its declared use-by date, not to consume it under any circumstances.

Salad from the larger packages may also have been sold loose by weight. Consumers who purchased Vlašský Salad from the retailers listed below without the manufacturer's original label and are unsure of its origin or batch are advised by CAFIA to verify this information with the retailer and not to consume the salad until the information has been verified.

The product was supplied to several points of sale:

140 g packages:

  • ZKD – Žlutice, Purkyňová 114, Žlutice
  • PECU – store located within the Kaufland hypermarket, Šumavská 782, Klatovy
  • PECU – Pražská, Pražská 122, Klatovy
  • GASTROPLUS Louny s.r.o., Rybalkova 2128, Louny
  • Grem s.r.o., Rybova 291, Přeštice

1 kg packages:

  • E. Opáleníková – Potraviny, Masarykovo náměstí 67, Přeštice
  • EM – Potraviny JP-Kdyně, Americká 643, Kdyně
  • Řeznictví U Šedlb, Kapitána Jaroše 109, Klatovy
  • Řeznictví U Špejlíka, Dvořákova 302, Horšovský Týn
  • Potraviny David, Chebská 251, Mariánské Lázně

300 g packages:

  • Potraviny Kovandová, Hrazanky 40

The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes causes listeriosis. CAFIA has therefore ordered the immediate withdrawal from the market of the food in question in all package sizes, as well as of products in which the food was used as an ingredient. The manufacturer has also been ordered to suspend production of this product and other foods of a similar type. The ban will remain in force until the safety of the food products concerned and the raw materials used in their production has been demonstrated through laboratory analyses carried out at the operator's own expense.

By placing a food product contaminated with bacteria on the market, the manufacturer breached applicable legislation by failing to meet the safety requirements laid down in Commission Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005 on microbiological criteria for foodstuffs.

At MASO WEST s.r.o., this is a repeated finding of the same bacterium. CAFIA previously published a warning concerning a batch of this product in a press release dated 30 March 2026.

CAFIA will initiate administrative proceedings against the inspected operator concerning the imposition of a fine.
