During an official inspection of food production, inspectors from the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) identified a non-compliant food product:
MASO WEST Potato Salad, 140 g packaging, with a use-by date of 1 April 2026, batch number: L862026076, manufacturer: MASO WEST s.r.o., Maxima Gorkého 682, 339 01 Klatovy.
Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in the product.
The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority strongly advises all consumers who may still have this batch of the product at home, considering its declared use-by date, not to consume it under any circumstances.
The product was distributed to several retail locations, including stores of the Globus chain (Prague–Černý Most, Prague–Zličín, Chomutov, Jeníšov), as well as Horoměřice Butchery and JIP PLUS Sedlčany.
The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes causes the disease listeriosis.
CAFIA has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the product from the market. The manufacturer has also been instructed to halt production of this and similar products. This ban will remain in effect until the safety of the products and the raw materials used in their production is proven through laboratory testing carried out at the operator’s own expense.
By placing a bacterially contaminated product on the market, the manufacturer violated applicable legal regulations, specifically by failing to meet safety requirements under Regulation (EC) No. 2073/2005 on microbiological criteria for foodstuffs.
CAFIA will initiate administrative proceedings with the inspected entity to impose a fine.
