CAFIA WARNS ABOUT MORE RISKY PRODUCTS CONTAINING EXTREMELY HIGH VALUES OF LEAD

10/03/2001

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority identified more products that can represent a risk to human health and whose contents of lead were highly exceeding the MRL values.

In addition to a product marketed under a name of ASTRUM MA MADHULENE, being declared as "a highly pure herbal extract with distinctly regenerative and stimulating effects on pancreas", in which laboratory analyses of various batches confirmed the occurrence of values of lead from 41,500 up to 42,800 mg/kg (the permissible amount is 8 mg/kg !), the MRL exceeding values of lead were also identified in the following products:

  • ASTRUM FE FEMIKALP (2,770 mgPb/kg)
  • ASTRUM TRIGULIV-15 (239 mgPb/kg)
  • ASTRUM AM AMLANTAK (92 mgPb/kg)
  • ASTRUM PR PRABODH (12.9 mgPb/kg)
  • ASTRUM ME MEDHELEEN (8.18 mgPb/kg)

All the above products are of Indian origins and they were manufactured by a company Triguna Ayurvedic Research Laboratory, Okhla, New Delhi. The products were imported and distributed in the Czech Republic by a company Emil Havelka-ASTRÁL.

As CAFIA informed yesterday, the products were sold in a network of shops known as "Astrological Pharmacy" and were also offered via Internet.

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority imposed a ban on the sale and distribution of these products already yesterday. More products marketed by the company Havelka-ASTRAL have been currently analysed in the CAFIA's laboratories. As soon as the results of analyses are available, CAFIA will bring the updated information.

CAFIA points out once again that despite an immediate intervention, it is not excluded that the mentioned products are spread among consumers, as the expiration term is between 2 and 3 years and they might have been bought some time ago.

CAFIA strongly advises the consumers against taking the products.
