CAFIA seized 1.135 tons of chilli peppers with pesticides entering the CR

The inspectors of the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) in cooperation with the Prague-Ruzyně Customs Office did not allow a shipment of chilli peppers on the market, where laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of pesticide residues exceeding the permitted limits The total weight of the detected non-compliant food lots was 1.135 kg.

The foodstuffs concerned are as follows:

Chilli (red), Capsicum frutescens, Lot Nr: NC-210324, importer: TeTe Fresh s.r.o., Urbánkova 2009/39, Prague 143 00, supplier: KHANG THINH FRUIT AND VEGETABLES CO., LTD, 2A58 TRAN VAN GIAU STREET, PHAM VAN HAI VILLAGE, BINH CHANH TOWN, HO CHI MINH CITY, VIET NAM, country of origin: Vietnam, weight: 735 kg.

Analysis performed in an accredited laboratory showed the presence of residues of the following pesticides in the foodstuffs in question: dimethoate amounting to 0.023 mg/kg (milligrams per kilogram, limit: 0.01 mg/kg), chlorfenapyr amounting to 0.081 mg/kg (limit: 0.01 mg/kg), and tolfenpyrad amounting to 0.10 mg/kg (limit: 0.01 mg/kg).

Red chilli, Ớt đỏ, Lot.: TP 2503-06, importer: PTTAN s.r.o., Zlatokorunská 1022/12, Prague 142 00, supplier: NGUYEN THI THANH VAN, TAM XUAN II COMMUNE, NUI THANH DISTRICT, QUANG NAM PROVINCE, VIET NAM, country of origin: Vietnam, weight: 400 kg.

Analysis performed in an accredited laboratory showed the presence of the pesticide residue chlorfenapyr in the foodstuff amounting to 0.034 mg/kg (limit: 0.01 mg/kg).

Based on these analyses, CAFIA inspectors decided not to release the foodstuffs onto the internal market and the importers subsequently had both lots destroyed.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure with the inspected persons to impose a fine.
