CAFIA found sweet capsicum with substance enhancing growth exceeding the limit

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found non-compliant foodstuff in retail network of Tesco Stores ČR a.s. - red capsicum in plastic bowl, lot: “LOT: 123/10/18”, supplier: EFES, spol. s r. o., Prague 5, country of origin: Hungary.

Laboratory analysis confirmed presence of effective substance ethephon amounting to 0.28 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) in the lot of the foodstuff in question. Ethephon is a pesticide used as a growth enhancer and its maximum permitted limit in foodstuffs is laid down by legislation as no higher as 0.05 mg/kg.

With regard to the abovementioned facts, CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected persons.
