CAFIA found prohibited pesticide carbofuran in dried goji from China

04/06/2018

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) detected presence of carbofuran in foodstuff “Goji - Lycium chinense”, lot L:NL004012017, best before date by 30/08/2018, country of origin: China.

Laboratory analysis proved presence of pesticide carbofuran amounting to 0.073 mg/kg which is sevenfold higher concentration than permitted by relevant legislation (0.01 mg/kg). Carbofuran used to be applied as a strong insecticide and due to its undesirable effects it has been banned by the EU since 2008.

Dutch company King Nuts & Raaphorst B.V., Spanjeweg 4, Bodegraven was the supplier of the foodstuff into the CR and company OŘÍŠEK s.r.o., Šmahova 46/1371, Brno was then the purchaser in the CR.

CAFIA ordered to suspend sale of the foodstuff in question and notified the information into the European Rapid Alert System RASFF.
