The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) investigated in previous days suggestion for inspection of oils produced by the company Oleopet, s.r.o. Turnov, which was submitted by the company Setuza a.s., Ústí nad Labem. According to this suggestion, the company Oleopet misled consumers by putting into circulation oils that were insufficiently and untruthfully labelled.
The CAFIA inspectors took in the production plant five samples of different types of oils; another four samples from the same production plant were taken in retail network. At the same time, they checked the production documentation. It clearly resulted from the investigation and from the results of laboratory analysis that the company Oleopet, s.r.o. had really misled consumers, since three out of the samples inspected were not labelled in accordance with the legislation.
In two oil samples inspected which were labelled as one-variety rape oils the laboratory analysis proven that characteristic properties (fatty acids composition) did not correspond to the type of oil declared. Furthermore, the check of the production documentation revealed that oil produced from genetically modified soya had been used for production in one case, however, the obligatory information that foodstuff was manufactured from genetically modified raw material was not stated on the packaging intended for consumer.
The CAFIA ordered the producer and stores inspected to withdraw the relevant lots of oils from circulation.
