The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) assures consumers that unsafe Pregestimil infant formula is not on the Czech market. CAFIA received the information about dangerous product by means of Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) with a statement that this infant formula produced in the Netherlands is probably the cause of four cases of infants´ infection in France, two of which ended in death. According to the RASFF system, three batches of this product have probably been contaminated with pathogen Enterobacter sakazakii which causes meningitis and serious intestinal troubles in newborns and very young children. The Dutch company has completely withdrawn this product from the market.

CAFIA information and investigation has shown that dangerous batches of Pregestimil infant formula, produced by the company Mead Johnson Nutritionals, have been imported only to France and from there to Algeria, not to the Czech Republic.
