CAFIA banned Lunch meat with missing proportion of meat

10/26/2017

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered to withdraw from market foodstuff CANNED PORK LUNCHEON MEAT, LUNCH MEAT Ma Ling, Vepřový lunch (pork meat), weight: 340 g, finished meal – suitable for direct consumption, best before date by 29th October 2017, lot: LP-5 EJ29-1, producer: Shanghai Maling (czech) a.s., 417 57 Hrobčice 93, Czech Republic. Serious adulteration was reason for that.

Relevant legislation clearly stipulates that a tin of the so-called luncheon meat must contain 70% of meat at least.

However, a laboratory analysis detected 42.6% of the real meat content of the tin only. CAFIA inspectors checked the adulterated foodstuff in a shop of NORMA k.s. retail chain in Prague. Further investigation revealed that the seller placed on the market the total of 52,800 pieces of the deficient lot of the foodstuffs in question.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
