CAFIA banned dried raisins with toxic substance over the limit

03/15/2018

The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) banned placing on the market of  following non-compliant foodstuff: Rozinky (ALBERT) – Raisins, packaged à 200g, best before date by: 09/10/2018, lot: E15180017A, country of origin: Iran. Slovakian company Encinger SK, spol. s.r.o., Jadranská 13, Bratislava was then the producer of the foodstuff.

Laboratory analysis of the lot in question confirmed presence of ochratoxin A exceeding the permitted limit. Detected amount 29 micrograms per kilogram (μg/kg) exceeded almost three times the maximum limit permitted by legislation (10 μg/kg). Ochratoxin A is a substance produced by moulds of which consumption has undesirable effect on human health.

Inspectors sampled the deficient lot at the premises of company AHOLD Czech Republic, a. s., and based on the result of the laboratory analysis, ordered the inspected person to immediately withdraw the non-compliant product from all its branches.

CAFIA entered the information into the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
