The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) ordered company Kaufland Česká republika v.o.s. to immediately withdraw adulterated foodstuff K-Classic Višňový džem výběrový (Morello cherry extra jam) packaged à 450 g, best before date by: 27. 10. 2019, labelled as follows: “seller: Kaufland Česká republika, v.o.s., Bělohorská 203, Prague“, made in Germany. The product has to be withdrawn from all branches of Kaufland.

The labelling of the foodstuff included, inter alia, following information: “composition: morello cherries (50%)” and “fruit in the amount of 50g was used for production of 100g of the final product“. However, CAFIA laboratory analysis proved proportion of morello cherries amounting to 34.8g per 100g of the final product only. The inspected person thus violated the relevant legislation by placing a foodstuff on the market which misled consumers by incorrect information regarding the real content of the product.

CAFIA therefore ordered the seller to withdraw the deficient lot from its whole market network as well as to have performed an analysis which will determinate the proportion of the fruit content in the product at three subsequent supplies of the foodstuff in question. The analysis will be carried out on the expenses of the inspected person in an accredited laboratory for the given type of the analysis.

CAFIA will initiate an administrative procedure on imposition of a fine with the inspected person.
